Champion

The Awesomeverse's Champion.

A champion is a lone individual who will always stand up to defend their world from perceived threats. When they fall, their universe falls with them. The term was first coined by Lord Vyce, using it to describe Linkara. He has allegedly defeated sixteen Champions so far. Vyce has stated there are ways of detecting who is a Champion, but those ways of detection are unknown.

Possible Champions

Considering that there may be more than one champion in the Channel Awesome universe and Reviewaverse, there are quite a few individuals that might fit the description.

• Nostalgia Critic - Possible champion of the Awesomeverse. While he haven't fought of quite as many invaders as Linkara, he has been involved in Inter-universal affairs when he encountered a mysterious entity that called himself The Writer. The NC also seems to have reality-warping powers, as he have destroyed the universe on several occasions, only to have it perfectly normal the next week.
• Lord Vyce - Lord Vyce is known to be the only survivor of his universe. This would presumably make him Champion by process of elimination, though it would be nothing more than an empty title considering his universe doesn't exist anymore. It is possible that he was champion even before the fall of his universe.
• BigJackFilms - BigJackFilms is known for being a Fictional Multiverse Traveler within the Reviewaverse thanks to the Fictional Dimensional Transporter he created with Doctor Terawatt. His travels allowed him to evolve into the Eldorian. He carries the Sword of Light, the Eldorian Ring and a weaponized Power Glove which doubles as a portable fictional dimensional teleporter. Defeating many fictional villains' such as Perfect Cell and saving the world from the invasion of the Galactic Empire in 2018, he is another worthy potential as a Champion.

The Contest of Champions

The Contest of Champions is an inter dimensional tournament arranged by the omnipotent Temlin species. 32 champions are invited from different universes. The invitation is not mandatory, and there is no punishment for losing, as the tournament is entirely non-lethal. The Temlins act not only as arrangers, but also judges and enforce the laws of the contest. It's continuously commented on by senior contest correspondents George Reece and Danielle Dantari. So far, there has been 1049 different contests.

Rules

As mentioned above, the contest is non-lethal, and the contestants are under no pressure to accept the invitation. Once they have accepted, they are subject to the rules set down by the Temlins.

• The combat and battlefield is chosen by one of the contestants - Before each battle, one of the contestants (presumably chosen either randomly or by some unknown system) are allowed to pick the style of combat, and the battlefield. This privilege can be given over to the other contestant, but it rarely is. There are nearly no limits on what kind of combat can be chosen. It can be a fight (either with any weapon, or one specific), a battle of wits, a game, a sports event, a pop quiz, or any other conceivable contest. The only rule is that the enemy has to have a chance at winning (A species that can teleport can't challenge one without legs in a footrace). The Temlins are known to be somewhat loose on this point, however, as a previous contestant, Jaeris, was allowed to pick a sharpshooter contest, despite his enemy having no proficiency in marksmanship.
• Preliminary Round - As soon as a contestant has accepted an invitation, they are immediately challenged in a preliminary round. This round is meant to assure that the Champion is worthy of contending. Losing this round carries no consequence.

Prizes

Each tournament, a fabulous prize is offered to the victor. Known prizes include:

• Device for temporal manipulation - A device that allowed the user to manipulate the time stream of their respective universe. Jaeris attempted to win this device, but was beaten out by the Bandit Chief. He later attempted to steal it for his own gain, but failed.
• The Infinity Gauntlet - A gauntlet containing six Infinity Gems, stones representing aspects of the universe. The owner would achieve godhood, gaining omnipotence and, should they wish, omniscience.

Behind the scenes

Lewis has stated in audio commentary that Linkara is in fact not the sole champion of the Channel Awesome Universe and opened up the possibility of there being multiple champions, but this has yet to be expanded upon in universe.
